Die AKZENTE gibt es seit 1954. Sie ist eine der typischen Nachkriegsgründungen, als Zeitschriften noch eine sehr wichtige Funktion innerhalb einer Gesellschaft hatten, die mit der Literatur und durch die Literatur sich orientieren wollte. Und zwar nicht deshalb, weil nicht auch damals bereits genügend Bücher zu kaufen gab, sondern weil nach dem nationalsozialistischen Furor das Konzept von Bildung, von literarischer Erziehung und utopischem Material neu bedacht werden mußte. Es ging als nicht so sehr darum, einer bestimmten Richtung, einer Schule ein Forum zu verschaffen, sondern vielmehr darum, die Erkenntnispotentiale der Literatur nach der Periode der Zensur zu fördern.
