MTA Dergisinde, yer bilimlerinin her dalına ilişkin özgün bilimsel araştırmalara, eleştirel derlemelere, kısa notlara ve yayımlanmış makalelere ilişkin eleştiri ve yanıt yazılarına yer verilmektedir. Dergi, yılda iki kez Türkçe ve İngilizce olarak yayımlanmaktadır. Dergiye yayınlanmak üzere gönderilen makalelerden makale kabul ücreti, makale işlem ücreti ve basım ücreti alınmamaktadır. MTA Dergisine gönderilen makaleler Yayın Kurulu tarafından intihal.net aracılığıyla intihal taramasından geçirilir. İntihal veya kendinden çalma tespit edilen makaleler dergi tarafından reddedilir. MTA Dergisi, tamamen açık erişim dergisi olarak yayınlanmaktadır. Dergideki makalelerin tam metin içeriğine internet üzerinden ücretsiz olarak erişilebilmektedir. Herhangi bir ortamda ticari olmayan kullanımına ve dağıtımına izin verilmektedir, yazarın ve derginin düzenli olarak atıf almasına imkân sağlamaktadır.
